Public Release Date for Motorcycle Industry Council's Powersports Standard Protocol Drawing Near

- Early Adopters Currently Testing Specifications -

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 16, 2005 - The Motorcycle Industry Council is announcing that seven well-known companies in the powersports industry have signed early adopter agreements and are testing to ensure that specifications for the Powersports Standard Protocol (PSP) are ready for upcoming public release. These companies include: American Honda Motor Co., Inc.; Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A.; ADP Lightspeed; C-Systems Software; Global Motorsport Group; Southern Motorcycle Supply and MIC Systems Software.

PSP is the industry standard that allows any dealer to transact business with any supplier entirely from within his dealership management system. With the implementation of PSP, dealers will no longer need to log into different supplier systems or phone and fax information that has to be keyed back into their business software.

Business data - things such as parts orders, product registrations and credit applications - will be processed in a consistent way right inside the dealership management system. This will increase speed and accuracy, and greatly reduce the time it takes to train dealer personnel.

A PSP DVD will debut today at the seventh annual MIC Communications Symposium. It highlights a variety of perspectives regarding PSP, including those of manufacturers, aftermarket distributors, dealer service providers, and dealers. MIC Board Chairman Larry Little is slated to close the video with an explanation of the importance of the standard to the powersports industry.

"The Powersports Standard Protocol promises very large ongoing productivity dividends throughout our industry's supply chain," Little said. "We salute the hard work of MIC staff and of member companies that spent thousands of hours developing it."

The PSP initiative is supported by MIC staff and specialized technology consultants, and receives guidance and counsel from the MIC's Technology Advisory Committee and Business Advisory Committee.

The Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) is a not-for-profit, national trade association representing manufacturers and distributors of motorcycles, scooters, motorcycle/ATV parts and accessories and members of allied trades, located in Irvine, California.
